UMass Memorial Medical Center
UMass Memorial Medical Center, a clinical partner and teaching affiliate of UMass Medical School and the flagship hospital of the UMass Memorial Health Care system, seeks an experienced, enthusiastic and articulate front-line fundraiser to build a grateful patient philanthropy program for its nationally recognized Cancer Center. One of its most distinguished and visible service lines, the Cancer Center holds multiple accreditations including the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer and the American College of Radiology (for radiation oncology, lung cancer screening, and mammography). It also holds accreditations for its Breast Center and Bone and Blood Marrow Transplant Program, and is a Designated Center of Integrated Oncology and Palliative Care.
UMass Memorial Medical Center has 700+ beds, three Worcester locations, and is the primary academic medical center in Central Massachusetts (www.umassmemorialhealthcare.org/umass-memorial-medical-center/about-us). Its Cancer Center reaches beyond Worcester to offer an unparalleled network of cancer care throughout Central New England, providing compassionate, coordinated patient- and family-centered services for common and complex types of cancers – from screening and prevention to diagnosis and treatment.
Through its teaching and research partner, UMass Medical School, UMMMC physicians and scientists collaborate to bring the latest diagnostic and treatment options to patients, including extensive clinical research trials in lung, breast, lymphoma, colorectal and liver cancers. Patients with complex or rare cancers receive expedited consultation and evaluation through UMMHC’s membership with the renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Care Collaborative. UMMHC is the first academic medical center to hold this prestigious distinction, having demonstrated a commitment to best practices in cancer care.
Major Gift Officer Position Summary:
Reporting to UMass Memorial Medical Center’s Executive Director of Advancement, the selected candidate’s responsibilities will include: collaborating with department chairs and clinical leadership to develop fundraising programs to sustain major gift support from patients, families, and the community; building and managing a prospect portfolio of 120-150 with a focus on individuals at the $25K+ level; and playing a key role in building a culture of philanthropy among clinicians.
The fundraising program at UMass Memorial Medical Center serves as a division of the UMass Medical School Advancement Office led by the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. Fundraising activities for the system’s other hospitals — UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital (Burbank, Clinton and Leominster Campuses) and UMass Memorial-Marlborough Hospital (Marlborough), are managed locally. Qualifications include: BA/BS degree with 5 years’ successful fundraising experience; prior experience in complex or matrixed environments preferred; able to build successful working relationships with academic/clinical leaders, patients and families, and colleagues; knowledge of traditional and innovative fundraising methods; and outstanding communications skills.
