Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks an Annual Giving Officer. This is an exceptional opportunity to join an enthusiastic and accomplished development team at an innovative and growing independent school. This is a full-time (12-month) position that reports to the Chief Development Officer and requires some travel as well as occasional evening and weekend work.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Annual Giving Officer is a key member of the Development team with primary responsibility for all aspects of annual giving, with a particular emphasis on building relationships with and soliciting gifts from current parents. The Annual Giving Officer partners internally and externally to align donor interests with annual funding, special projects, and other opportunities.

- Develop strategies to meet budgeted revenue number; monitor and evaluate the plan and make recommendations throughout the year to ensure fundraising is on track;
- Partner with the Chief Development Officer and the Head of School to develop and execute strategies for engaging prospects with the capacity to become leadership Annual Fund donors to Walnut Hill;
- Carry a portfolio of prospects, primarily of current parents, and qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward gifts through in-person visits and other highly personal communications;
- Organize, oversee, and development special campaigns that drive participation in the annual fund including, but not limited to, Telethon and Give Day;
- Conceive of print and online appeals; work with creative staff and external vendors to produce high quality, effective, collateral to support annual appeal strategy; analyze and report on effectiveness of print material;
- Provide support to development operations and systems by working closely with the Database Manager and Stewardship & Research Coordinator to ensure accurate gift entry, timely acknowledgments, ongoing donor research, monthly reconciliations with the Business Office, support for the annual audit, and other financial reports;
- Participate in and support development colleagues in meeting broader department goals and priorities;
- Travel as needed to build and cultivate donor relationships, solicit gifts, and attend events; work evenings and weekends as needed;
- Support students and attend or engage in arts productions, shows, exhibitions, and performances; and
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required;
- Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in development or a related field; experience in independent schools and/or arts organizations a plus;
- Experience with identification, cultivation, and solicitation of leadership annual gifts;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the full spectrum of development practices, principles, and activities, including gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, working with high-level volunteers, and the ability to apply this knowledge creatively to fundraising projects;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people;
- Commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community;
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills and polished presentation skills;
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team;
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Google applications, Microsoft Office, and knowledge of donor software;
